Jim has served in the ministry since graduating from Kentucky Christian College with a B.A. in New Testament in 1979. He has served in ministries including student recruiter and lecturer at Midsouth Christian College. During his tenure at Midsouth Christian College, he traveled to camps and ministered to youth throughout the area.

In 1982, he married his wife Joni and entered into local church ministries. He has served as senior minister at 5 churches in Alabama and Florida, and has been with us at Huntsville Christian Church since 1999. He serves in a number of different capacities in parachurch organizations, including vice-president of the Alabama Christian Service Camp, a member of the continuation committee for the North American Christian Convention, and a trustee of Midsouth Christian College.

He has two children, Jacki and Joe, who attended Johnson Bible college and are now married and actively involved in ministry at the churches that they attend.

John came to HCC in 2007 from Discovery Christian Church in Cocoa, FL where he served for seven years as a Youth Minister. John hails originally from Eustis Florida and attended Florida Christian College where he received a BS in Youth Ministry with emphasis on family counseling and where he also met and married his wife Mitzi. While at FCC John also picked up the moniker "Phatrok," the origin of which requires a personal explanation by him.

Prior to receiving his degree John worked part time as a wild animal trainer and rodeo clown which helped prepare him for a career in youth ministry. John has worked for over 10 years as a youth minister and during that time has made multiple youth missionary trips. He recently led a HCC group of 14 adults and youth on a 10 day mission trip to Beauchamps, Haiti. In his two years at HCC, John has expanded the youth and children’s ministry and sponsored many outreach and community involvement events. John oversees the HCC Pre-School program and leads a weekly devotional period for these children. John and Mitzi have a son Dillon (6). Mitzi is a third grade teacher at Harvest Elementary School and also helps John with the execution of the children’s ministry programs.
